It's been a looong time since I've come onto DA. I've been a little busy with other projects. I wish sewing could be one of them, but as my sewing machine is on the blitz, it's going to be a while for me before I sew again. My last convention was Ohayocon and I got some amazing shots from it. I can't list all of what right now because I'm really tired, but I plan to start loading up some pictures on Monday. Sorry for the delay!

My future con list is Marcon and Colossalcon.

I have a few people tempting me into going to my first Otakon. I'd really love to hear feedback from anyone whose gone on what it's like. I've been going to cons for ten years now, but the biggest con I've ever been to is Acen and that was only once. I'd love to hear any tips for a Mega con like this one.

Otherwise, I'm trying to save my funds as I am planning a future trip to Europe to see one of my friends who has been abroad. Eeee! So excited! It will be my first time going across the pond and my second time ever stepping off of American soil (the first time being Canada, not sure if you want to count that as I don't live too far from the border).

I'm still a good 1,000 views away from hitting my 15,000 mark, but I'll be honest, I'm not sure what I can do then to thank all of you. Is there anything in particular people would like?

Not at all! Otakon only has so many amazing locations, mainly because you don't want to wander too much past the inner harbor XD. If you get in on Thursday, parking isn't terrible, you'll still pay a pretty penny for a parking garage spot though. Frankly, the past two years, I've had someone drive me in, or hopped public transit. For me, it's not worth driving in. Getting in on Thursday is fairly busy, especially later, Friday is a nightmare. Leaving is also a nightmare, so the more time you can give yourself, the better off you are.

You have to get a badge, unfortunately, if you plan on going in the convention center at all. You can sometimes slide in, but they post security guards at the entrances to the con center and check for badges. So I'd say investing is a good idea.

Feel free to ask me any other questions!!!

I've been going to Otakon since 2005, so I've got some experience. Overall, it's a fairly decent con, though I'm all nostalgic and snobbish in my opinion that it has deteriorated as a con, I really only go for the photoshoots and people anymore, haha. It certainly has its ups and downs, and I think everyone should go once, if just to say they've experienced the craziness! Here are some things to look out for!

Numero uno, prepare to deal with massive amounts of people. Otakon had 31,000+ paid attendees in 2011, and I expect the number will be around the same this year (but ballpark, you're looking at 25-30k people?). This makes meeting new people a breeze, but finding a quieter/less crowded photoshoot location can be a pain. Plus, massive crush of people, etc etc. I digress.

2. Prepare to deal with the heat! This con is always exhaustingly hot, so hydrate up and get inside when you can!

Three- it's expensive! Pre-reg for this year is $70 bucks, plus hotel rooms and if you want to go to the dealer's room. All the surrounding restaurants are varyingly priced, but you still want a good amount of cash on hand/available because certain places (ie ANYTHING cheaper) will be jam packed and may not be worth the wait. PS- If you plan on carrying cash, you'll either want to pull it from a bank at home, or on Thursday of the con. By Friday late morning, all the ATMs in the area are tapped out.

4th! You will do tons of walking, haha. Now, this is a norm for most cons, but Otakon spans two full convention center buildings, and part of a hotel, as well as having the masquerade off site at the First Mariner Arena a few blocks away. This is in addition to having hotels scattered all about the place as well as restaurants. Seriously, bring a good pair of comfortable shoes. You'll want them.

Finally, prepare to deal with all types of people. I realize this may sound kind of obvious, but you will seriously deal with all types, ranging from insanely awesome to really idiotic/annoying. Definitely be prepared to deal with them!!!

Overall, I say you should definitely go, and have try to have fun!

Thanks for the information! It's really helpful to know. Some other things I'm wondering about are parking and traffic. I am assuming that arriving traffic varies on Thursday and Friday. But what about departing traffic on Sunday? Should I give myself an extra hour just upon leaving the city? And would you say there's an adequate amount of parking or that I'll need to reserve my space in PA?

I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to get a badge, I pretty much attend conventions for the people and the photoshoots. And I rarely get anything from the Dealers room, but then again I've never been to an epic cons Dealers room. Would you say it's selection is much wider or still pretty much the same? And is it ridiculously overpriced?

Sorry for asking so many questions but you seem to know a lot! And I know that you've been there many times from your photoshoots. (Is it sad that I can recognize Otakon photoshoots from the surroundings but I've never been there? ;.;)
